Other (Term 3) Flashcards
Multicellular
An organism with multiple cells
Unicellular
An organism with only one cell
Stem Cells
An unspecialised cell that can give rise to one or more types of specialised cells
Parent Cell
A parent cell is the cell that divides during cell division
Daughter Cells
Daughter cells are the new
cells from the divided parent cell
Cell Division
The process by which a single cell divides to produce two or more new cells. (Cell reproduction)
Cells
A cell is the basic unit of life, and they make up all living things
Mitosis
Produces two genetically identical daughter cells from a single parent cell, used for growth, repair, and asexual reproduction.
Meiosis
Produces four genetically diverse daughter cells with half the number of chromosomes of the parent cells.
Specialized Cell
Cells with unique functions and structures within an organism
Embryonic Stem Cells
An embryonic stem cell is a pluripotent stem cell derived from early-stage embryos that can develop into any cell type in the body.
Adult Stem Cells
Stem cells found in specialised tissues that can produce more of the specialised cells in that tissue for growth and repair.
Pluripotent Stem Cells
A pluripotent stem cell is a type of stem cell that can differentiate into nearly any cell type in the body, making it highly versatile for medical and research applications.
Seven Life Processes
-Respiration; Can release energy from food
-Nutrition; Must create or consume food
-Movement; Can move
-Excretion; Can remove waste from the body
-Sensitivity; Can sense and respond to change in an environment
-Grow; Get larger over time
-Reproduce; Can make copies of themselves
Rules of Scientific Drawings
-Use a pencil
-Write a clear title
-Record magnification
-Draw a sample, not everything
-Label all the parts
