Organelles Flashcards
Vacuole
Cell organelle that stores materials such as water, salts, proteins, and carbohydrates
Chloroplast
The organelle captures the energy from sunlight and converts it into chemical energy. Photosynthesis
Cytosol/Cytoplasm
A jellylike fluid inside the cell in which the organelles are suspended
Nucleus
Control center of the cell contains DNA’
Mitochondria
The organelle that is the site of ATP (energy) production
Cell Wall
A rigid structure that surrounds the cell membrane and provides support to the cell
Cell Membrane
A cell structure that controls which substances can enter or leave the cell
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Studded with ribosomes on its surface, which are used for protein synthesis, and help in folding and modifying the protein.
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
Makes lipids (fats) which can be used for cell membranes. It also detoxifies harmful substances in the cell.
Golgi Body
Receives protein and lipids from the RER and SER and modifies them further, before sending them around the cell.
Ribosomes
They make proteins for the cell
Organelle
A specialised cell structure that carries out a specific function within the cell
