Mental disorder characterised by persistent delusions
- Delusions remain even when opposing evidence presented
Bizarre Delusion
Of control
- Others control one’s actions/thoughts
Of thought broadcasting
- Others can hear one’s thoughts
Of thought withdrawal
- One’s thoughts are being stolen
Nihilstic
- World/self doesn’t exist
Non-bizzare delusions
- Persecutory = Others conspiring against
- Jealous
- Guilt/Sin
- Of referance: one believes messages directed at them/are especially significant
- Somatic: one’s body has changed
- Erotomanic: when you think someone is in love with you but they aren’t
- Grandiose: they believe they have special talent
- Religious
Mood incongruent
Not affected by mood or state of mind
- Nihilism
- Delusions of control
Mood congruent
Consistent with depressive or manic state
- Persecutory when depressed
- Superiority when manic
Diagnosis
> 1 delusion over > 1 month period without meeting other criteria for schizophrenia
- Hallucinations may occur in some cases of delusional disorder
Affects day-to-day functioning
Not caused by other condition/Substance

This is the belief that a loved one like a mother or sibling has been replaced by an imposter
Cotard syndrome
Belief that you are dead or your body or body parts have disintegrated or no longer exist.
De Clerambault syndrome
AKA: erotomania, is a form of paranoid delusion with an amorous quality. The patient, often a single woman, believes that a famous person is in love with her.
Othellos syndrome
Pathological jealousy where a person is convinced their partner is cheating on them without any real proof. This is accompanied by socially unacceptable behaviour linked to these claims.
