OT and Teamwork Flashcards
How is teamwork applied in the healthcare environment?
It is the ability to recognize and respect the expertise of other professionals and work with them for the patient’s best interest
The 4 Teamwork Approaches:
- Intradisciplinary Approach
- Multidisciplinary Approach
- Interdisciplinary Approach
- Transdisciplinary Approach
- Involves people within the profession
- More narrow-minded and not as holistic, as you are only focused within your scope
Intradisciplinary Approach
- Involves many professions, and each professional is responsible for identifying and carrying out one’s own discipline-related evaluation and intervention
- The objective is coordination and cooperation, not necessarily to share common goals
- Share information about their client’s progress relative to the discipline-specific goals
Multidisciplinary Approach
- Many professions
- Team members identify common goals and plan intervention collaboratively and discuss with each other how their intervention plans will be implemented
- Team members become interdependent
- Some interventions may be jointly carried out, and the client is often involved in the decision—making process.
Interdisciplinary Approach
- Many professions
- ## Functions without discipline-centered boundaries, meaning members appear to have blurred roles because many of their role-related functions become interchangeable
Transdisciplinary Approach
3 key elements for successful and responsible transdisciplinary teamwork:
- Overall Assessment
- Ongoing Interaction Between Team Members
- Role Release
Conducted by one professional but observed by all. This type of arena assessment allows each to provide information based on their unique base of knowledge and skill.
Overall Assessment
A person or team can do the work usually specified for another distinct team or scope
It allows interprofessional intervention to be carried out by one individual.
Role Release
