Canadian Model of Occupational Participation
What is the CMOP for?
Shift of focus to occupational participation, emphasizing the importance of context and how it affects everyday doing.
Guide on exploration of what the person wants to do and needs to do to fulfill their basic needs from their perspective
Looks at ways in the environment to expound possibilities and initiate and sustain ways to promote long-term and short-term participation
Having access to, initiating, and sustaining valued occupations within meaningful relationships and contexts.
Occupation Participation
Fulfilling essential needs as defined by the individual or collective.
Purpose
Meaning of an occupation is defined through:
- History
- Relationships
- Considered through the life course of a person rather than the lifespan; includes chronological, developmental, and historical time.
History
Past and present connections that affect the meaning and purpose of occupations
Relationship
Kinds of Context:
- Micro
- Meso
- Macro
Context that interacts directly with the person; aspects of health, physical environment, social context that directly affect the person.
Micro Context
Context that involves policies, rules, regulations
Meso Context
Context that involves values, beliefs
Macro Context
