What does ICFDH mean?
International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health
Who created the ICFDH?
World Health Organization
What is the ICFDH for?
- It is the conceptual framework and basis of defining, measuring, and policy-formulating health and disability.
- It provides language that OTs can use to explain its services to a broad audience
The ICFDH is used to define and describe changes in:
- Body function and structure
- Person’s capabilities with a health condition in a standard environment
- What person actually does in usual environment
This model is thebasis of the ICFDH
Biopsychosocial Model of Disability, which integrates these 2 other models:
- Medical Model of Disability
- Social Model of Disability
This model views disability as a feature of the person, directly caused by disease, trauma or other health condition, which requires medical care provided in the form of individual treatment by professionals.
Medical Model of Disability
This model views disability as a socially created problem and not at all an attribute of an individual
Social Model of Disability
In the model, Activity is the central point. Activity affects, and is affected by:
- Health Condition (presence of disorder/disease)
- Body Function & Structure
- Participation
In the model, Activity does not affect, but is affected by
Contextual Factors
With the exclusion of Activity, these two factors also affect and are affected by each other
Body Function & Structure and Participation
Impairments, activity limitations, participation restrictions aka
Disability
