Anterior Superior Iliac Spine (ASIS)

  • attachment of inguinal ligament
  • McBurney’s point: 1/3 distance from ASIS to umbilicus = base of appendix, tenderness = appendicitis

Pubic Symphysis

  • cartilaginous joint b/w superior pubic rami
  • anterior to bladder
  • attachment for suspensory lig. of penis

Iliac Crest

Iliac Tubercle

  • prominence on the external lip of the iliac crest, 5 cm posterior to ASIS
  • marks the widest point of the iliac crest
  • imaginary line connecting the left and right iliac tubercles forms the transtubercular plane, level of L5 vertebra
  • origin for the iliotibial tract/IT band
