Q

what does it mean if the ICF is hypertonic,

what direction will osmosis go

A

the ICF has less solution than the ECF so the cell will shrivel up
- ECF to ICF

Q

What does it mean if the ICF is isotonic,

what is the direction will osmosis go

A

the cell is at its optimum stage, the ICF and ECF have the same concentration/amount of solution, so no movement of water

Q

What does it mean if the ICF is Hypotonic.

Q

describe what resting membrane potential

A

at rest, the intracellular space has more negative charges than the extracellular space which results in a ‘electrical gradient’
