Oscillations and diversions Flashcards
Why do concentrations of metabolites differ over time?
In order to have homeostasis, need metabolites to be in and out of phase. (as one increases, the other decreases)
Example of in phase: ADP and AMP (breakdown products of the same molecule)
Example of out of phase: ATP with AMP and ADP
In/out of phase fits with PFK-1 as a key regulation point. Why? requries atp and is regulated by amp…
Glycolysis and GNG regulation is…
coupled to each other and to other uses
point is: not just doing energy, has potential diversions.
muscular exertion and feeding/fasting affects
If muscles are being exerted, will affect regulation…
Also if eating/fasting a lot the insulin/glucagon will affect regulation as well.
GNG is controlled by diet inversely to carb content.
GNG wont be running if your diet has a lot of carbs, so inverse.
Both insulin and glucagon affect PEPCK transcription via [cAMP] (if cAMP not being made, affects other things that depend on cAMP indirectly) although insulin doesnt directly affect synthesis of cAMP
