Into/out of the TCA Flashcards
1
Q
Other ways to get Energy other than carb metabolism
A
- amino acids
- fatty acids
2
Q
If pyruvate is converted to lactate, why is there potential energy lost?
A
under Anaerobic conditions, and due to lactate not being fully oxidized yet.
If there is further oxidation, between CO2 and Water, will get more ATP due to Ox-phos.
3
Q
WHat to do with TCA?
A
- several fuels (AA, pyr, FA) which are converted to acetyl-coA
- rxns occur in the mitochondria… Glycolysis occurs in cyt, need a way to move from cytosol to the mitochondria. So need transport proteins
- OA is a crossroad metabolite (TCA and GNG)
