1. ask patient if they have noticed any recent changes to their hearing
2. whisper a number or word 60cm from the ear while masking ear not being tested
3. Ask patient to repeat the number or word back to them

512 Hz tuning fork in the midline of forehead

Ask patient where they hear the sound

Describe Rinne’s test?

Answer 3

Place tuning fork on mastoid process.

Confirm patient can hear the sound of the tuning fork and then ask them when they can no longer hear it.

When patient can’t hear the tuning fork move it in front of the external auditory meatus to test air conduction.

Ask patient if they can hear the sound again.
