Orthotics/Prosthetics Flashcards
What is a DF assist?
Dynamic DF assist, primarily for weak DF, limited resistance to PF
-Assist in toe clearance during swing phase and help control PF at initial contact
What is a PF stop?
Blocks PF motion and allows free DF
-For weak DF or tight PF
-Typically block PF at 90 degrees
What is a DF stop?
Blocks DF motion, allows free PF, for individuals with weak PF
What is an AFO?
Typically consists of a foot plate, ankle joint or strut and a proximal cuff or leg band BELOW THE KNEE
-PF stop/assist and DF stop/assist are AFO’s
What is a KAFO?
Orthodox that controls motion at the ankle, knee and foot
Components: hinge joint, frontal plane control, thigh bands
What is a HKAFO?
Hip-knee-ankle-foot orthosis
-Provides control for LE joints at and above the ankle
-Hip joint: typically a metal hinge joint which controls for ABD, ADD< and rotation, hip flex when locked
THKAFO?
Trunk-hip-knee-ankle-foot
Trunk band added to HKAFO
What is a hinged AFO?
Single axis of rotation, allowing motion in Sagittal plane while controlling motion in other planes
