NWB?
Not permitted to bear any weight through injured limb
Partial WB?
Bear portion 25%, 50% through limbs
Touch down weight bearing/ toe-touch?
Permitted minimal contact with the ground- balance- walking on egg shells
WBAT?
Bear as much weight as comfortable to the pt
FWB?
No longer needing a AD
Two point pattern?
-usually has AD on both sides.
-Move AD and contra lateral leg at the same time
Indications to use 2 point pattern?
-Bi weakness
-Improve balance
What to consider if prescribing 2 point pattern?
-Requires coordination
-No WB restrictions
3 point pattern?
Involves 2 crutches or a walker. CANNOT be just 1 cane or 1 crutch.
Pt is NWB!!
1. AD
2. Involved LE (NWB)
3. Advance uninvolved LE
Considerations when prescribing 3 point pattern?
Pt must have good UE strength, balance, and endurance
Four point pattern?
Use AD (Cane or Bi Crutches)
- AD
- Contra LE
- (Other AD)
- Oppposite LE
Ex: L crutch, R foot, R crutch, L foot
Considerations when using 4 point pattern?
Pt needs maxA, stability and balance
Ascending stairs with an AD?
- Good leg
- AD
- Bad leg.
PT 2 stairs below with hand on belt and shoulder and slightly to the side of the impairment.
Must mimic their home environment if they have a hand rail. If they do not, safer to put the AD on the R side.
Descending stairs with an AD?
- AD
- Bad leg
- Good leg
PT is 2 stairs below the pt with hand on belt and other hand on shoulder
