- MacIntosh: curved
* Miller or Wisconsin: straight

What are the indications for using either type of blade?

- MacIntosh: adults
* Miller/Wisconsin: children/elderly

Why do you use a straight blade in children/elderly?
A
The curved blade is designed to go above the epiglottis. In children and the elderly, the epiglottis is floppy and does not stay up. The straight blade is thus designed to go over the epiglottis and pull it up.
