Beginnings of CFD
August 25, 1885 the Calgary Hook, Ladder and Bucket Corps was formed marking the beginning of what is now the Calgary Fire Department.
James “Cappy” Smart
The most well-known member of the Calgary Fire Department, James “Cappy” Smart, joined the bucket brigade on August 24, 1885 as a Ladderman. It didn’t take him long to rise through the ranks being named to Captain in 1891 and then named Chief shortly after in 1898; a position he held until 1933.
3 categories of apparatuses
Engines (“work horse”, put water on fire), Auxiliary apparatus (Aerials, Rescues, HazMats, Tenders, Air/Light, and High Rise) and Specialty apparatus (Aquatics, Bush Buggies, the Recovery Truck, the Mobile Command Unit, and Technical Rescue Support).

9 total. Last one is July 13, 1992 Firefighter John Morley James

Fire Marshal - Oversees the Fire Code Inspections and Fire Investigations sections of the Fire Department.
Coordinators - Supervise a support division.
