Q

Before entry..

A

Before entry, open the valve on the RIT cylinder. Ensure airflow discharging air out of the high-pressure hose. Allow the air to escape for 2-3 seconds to ensure the cylinder valve and pressure reducer are functioning correctly. Ensure the pressure gauge attached to the pressure reducer remains visible and is identical to the cylinder pressure.

Unconscious Firefighter Rescue from Basement

A

Rescuing an unconscious Firefighter from a basement with access to a window demands a team of at least 3 Firefighters, ideally 4.
10 foot attic ladder
Rotate the downed Firefighter onto the ladder facedown. Slightly rotate their head towards their right shoulder to keep the regulator clear of the rungs and so that you have access to their bypass valve.
Place their feet onto the lowest possible rung.

Q

Transfilling Between SCBAs

A

The SCBA with the higher-pressure reading is the donor. The SCBA with the lower pressure is the receiver. Transfilling between users of SCBAs should be performed only during life- threatening emergencies or simulated training exercises. Both donor and receiver must return to fresh air immediately following the procedure.
DO NOT transfill if the donor’s primary low pressure warning device is sounding or HUD/control module are flashing red (has to be greater than 2000 psi)
