Organophosphates Flashcards
1
Q
Etiology of poisoning - Organophosphate
A
- Organophosphates are used as Insecticides
2
Q
Mechanism of Action - Organophosphate
A
- Inhibition of Acethylcholinesterase Enzyme (AChE)
-They are similar to Cholinesterase molecules and bind to the Enzymes active site
-Resulting in Overbundance of Acethylcholine at the Neuroreceptor
-Initially Stimulates and then Paralyze in Cholinergic Synapses and Nerve endings
-Resulting in Stimulation of the Autonomic Nervous System, Skeletal Muscles and CNS
!If they contain Sulphur = can become more Toxic by Biotransformation!
3
Q
Clinical Symptoms - Organophosphate
A
- Salivation
- Diarrhoea
- Vomiting
- Cramps
- Seizures
4
Q
Treatment - Organophosphate
A
- Atropin
5
Q
Chemical-Toxicological Analysis (CHTA) - Organophosphate
A
- TLC - Thin layer chromatography
- GC - Gas chromatography
