Organisation Of Tissues And Organs Flashcards
What do the digestive system, respiratory system and circulatory system provide?
Digestive provides nutrients for the body
Respiratory provides oxygen and removes carbon dioxide
Both provide dissolved minerals that need to be carried by circulatory system
Damage to any system can be fatal so eat well
What is the plants transport system dependent on
It’s dependent on the environmental conditions so leaf cells receive water and carbon dioxide to photosynthesise
What are the principles of organisation
Cells are basic building blocks of all organism
Tissue is a group of cells with similar structure and function
Organs are aggregations of tissues performing specific functions
Organs organised into organ systems working together to form organisms
Examples of animal tissues
Muscular - contract to cause movement
Glandular - produces enzymes and hormones
Epithelial- covers some parts of body
Organs may contain several tissues
For example
Stomach contains:
Muscular tissue to churn contents
Glandular to produce digestive juices
Epithelial to cover outside and inside of stomach
How does the human digestive system work
Several organs work together to digest and absorb food
This includes:
Glands eg salivary and pancreas producing digestive juices
Stomach and small intestine where digestion occurs
Liver produces bile
Small intestine absorbs of soluble food
Large intestine where water absorbed from undigested food producing faeces
