  • Ground up sample
  • Place in test tube and add Benedict’s solution.
    -Put test tube in boiling water.
  • Wait 5 minutes
  • Positive : brick red
    Negative : stays blue.

  • Place ground sample in spotting tile
  • Add 2-3 drops of iodine
  • Poistive : blue/black
    Negative : stays brown or yellow.

  • Fill test tube 1/4 with sample
    -Add ethanol to cover it
    -Swirl tube to mix
  • Add distilled water and mix again
  • Positive : cloudy white or milky
