How does bile help the digestive system?

A
  • Produced in the liver and stored in the gall bladder
  • Secreted in the small intestine
    -Neutralises stomach acid - providing alkaline conditions needed in the small intestine
  • Emulsfies fat - providing a larger surface area which the lipease enzymes can work.

A

Waves of muscles contraction which move the food along the gut.

How is villi adapted to help the digestive system?

A
  • Wall is just one cell thick - helps with diffusion and active transport.
  • Network of blood capillaries - glucose and amino acids.
  • Internal structure (lacteal) - fatty acids and glycerol.
