Cells - Specialised Cells Flashcards
What are specialised cells?
Cells that have adaptations to carry out their specific functions
Examples and non-examples of specialised cells
Examples:
Red blood cells, white blood cells, nerve cells and sperm cells.
Non-examples:
Stem Cells
What is the process called by which they become specilised?
Differentiation.
Name 4 specalised cells and their functions.
Nerve Cell - carry nerve impulses around body.
Root Hair Cell - absorb water from the soil.
Red Blood Cell - transport oxygen around the body.
Egg Cell - to be fertilised by the sperm cell.
etc
Name 2 specalised cells and there adaptations.
Root Hair Cell - large surface area and no chloroplasts.
Nerve Cell - long, branches to connect to other nerve cells.
