Organic Tissue Flashcards
What are the 4 basic tissue types in humans?
- Epithelial
- Connective
- Muscular
- Nervous
What are the 2 functions of Epithelial tissue?
- It provides covering (such as skin tissue)
2. Produces secretions (such as glandular tissue)
Why is Epithelial tissue dependent on diffusion from nearby capillaries for food and oxygen?
Due to Epithelial tissue lacking its own blood supply
What are the 2 criteria of classification of Epithelial tissue?
- Number of cell layers
2. Cell shape
Simple and Stratified Epithelial tissues vary in function of?
Number of cell Layers
Where are Simple Epithelial tissues found?
In body structures where Absorption, secretion and filtration occur
Where are Stratified Epithelial tissues found?
Found on body structures which require protection since it’s multilayered
What is the purpose of Connective tissue?
It serves to connect different structures of the body
Does Connective tissue have its own blood supply? If various, give examples.
Most do, yes. Ligaments do not.
What are the various types of connective tissue?
Bone, cartilage, adipose(fat), and blood vessel
What is the purpose of Muscle tissue?
It is dedicated to producing movement
What are the 3 types of muscle tissue?
Skeletal, Cardiac and Smooth
Describe the function of skeletal muscle tissue
Supports voluntary movement since it’s connected to bones
Describe function of Smooth muscle
Involuntarily controlled and found in the walls of hollow organs (eg. intestines, blood vessels, bladder, uterus)
Describe Cardiac muscle
Similar to smooth muscle but only found in the heart
