Organ Systems Flashcards
Name the 11 Organ Systems in the Human Body
- Circulatory
- Digestive
- Endocrine
- Integumentary
- Lymphatic
- Muscular
- Nervous
- Reproductive
- Respiratory
- Skeletal
- Urinary
Glands of the endocrine system?
Pineal, pituitary, thalamus, hypothalamus, thyroid, parathyroid, thymus and adrenal, ovaries, testes
Functions of the adrenal glands
Helps to control blood sugar,
Promotes healthy cardiovascular functions,
Distributes stored fat,
Proper utilization of carbohydrates and fats.
Function of the Hypothalamus
Controls the pituitary hormones by releasing,
- Thyrotropic-releasing-hormone (Thyroid stimulating hormone)
- Corticotropin-releasing-hormone (neurotransmitters involved in the stress response)
- Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone-testosterone production)
- Growth hormone
Function of the pancreas
Releases bicarbonate for gastric acid neutralization
Release insulin for blood sugar regulation
(Release of Glucagon hormone when blood sugar is low to have glycogen broken down into sugar in the liver to be used)
Function of the ovaries
Produces estrogen (breast) Produces progesterone (menstruation, embryogenesis)
Function of parathyroid
Controls phosphate and calcium levels in body (vital for bones)
Function of pineal
Releases melatonin to aid body in recognizing when to sleep
Function of pituitary gland
Releases HGH
Releases Prolactin (breast milk production)
Releases Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (controls cortisone which reduces stress, regulates blood pressure)
Releases TSH
Releases luteinizing hormone (controls estrogen and testosterone production)
Releases Follicle stimulating hormone (controls egg and sperm production)
Releases Oxytocin (controls pregnancy contractions and breastmilk flow)
Releases Antidiuretic hormone (controls water balance)
