Organelles and Tissues Flashcards
What are the parts of an organelle?
Cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, mitochondria, Golgi apparatus, endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, lysosome
Cell membrane
Controls what goes in and out of a cell
Nucleus
Brain of the cell
Cytoplasm
Holds other organelles
Mitochondria
Makes energy
Golgi Apparatus
Packages proteins
Endoplasmic reticulum
Transports proteins
Lysosome
Disposes waste
How are tissues formed?
They are formed by groups of specialized cells
What is differentiation?
The process by which a cell becomes specialized to perform specific functions
What are the different tissues?
Nervous, epithelial, muscle, connective
Epithelial tissue
Sheets of cells that cover the exterior (skin, lining of internal organs)
Connective tissue
Binds the cells and organs together
What does the connective tissue function?
The protection, support and integration of all parts of the body
Muscle tissue
Responds to stimulation. Contracts to provide movement
What are the muscle types?
Skeletal, smooth, cardiac
What does the nervous system do?
Allows the propagation of electrochemical signals in the form of nerves impulses that communicate between regions of the body
Tissue membranes
Thin layer/sheet of cells that cover the outside of the body, organs, internal passageways, and lining of moveable joint cavaties
