Organelles and Tissues Flashcards
What is the current cell theory?
- All known living things are made of cells
- All new cells are created by pre-existing cells dividing in two
- The cell is the most basic structure and function of all living organisms
What is mitosis?
The creation of new cells by one cell dividing in two
Cell membrane
controls what goes in and out of a cell
Nucleas
the brain of the cell
Mitchondria
makes energy, the powerhouse of the cell
Golgi Apparatus
packages proteins
Endoplasmic Reticulum
transports proteins
Ribosomes
makes proteins
Lysosome
dispose of waste
How are tissues formed?
Specialized cells grouping togethor
What is nervous tissue?
Nervous tissue is found in the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. It is responsible for coordinating and controlling many body activities.
Brain, spinal cord, nerves
What is epithelial tissue?
Sheets of cells that cover the exterior of the body. Intestine lining and skin
What is muscle tissue?
Muscle tissue is composed of cells that have the special ability to shorten or contract in order to produce movement of the body parts.
Skeletal, smooth, cardiac
What is connective tissue?
Tissue that supports, protects, and gives structure to other tissues and organs in the body.
Fat, bone and tendons
What is tissue membrane?
Thin layer or sheet of cells that cover the outside of the body, organs, internal passageways, and lining of moveable joint cavities.
connective tissue, epithelial membrane
