Organ Systems and Their Functions Flashcards
What are the organ systems?
The 11 organ systems include the integumentary system, skeletal system, muscular system, lymphatic system, respiratory system, digestive system, nervous system, endocrine system, cardiovascular system, urinary system, and reproductive systems.
Integumentary System
The set of organs setting up the outermost layer of our body; our skin and nails.
Skeletal System
Our bones
Muscular System
The organ system consisting of skeletal, smooth and cardiac muscles. It permits movement of the body, maintains posture and circulates blood throughout the body.
Lymphatic System
An organ system in vertebrates that is part of the circulatory system and the immune system. It is made up of a large network of lymph, lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, lymphatic or lymphoid organs, and lymphoid tissues.
Respiratory System
Our lungs, allows us to breath
Digestive System
Processes food and turns it into energy
Nervous System
The nervous system is a highly complex part of an animal that coordinates its actions and sensory information by transmitting signals to and from different parts of its body.
Endocrine System
Regulates hormones and other chemicals
Cardiovascular System
An organ system that permits blood to circulate and transport nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, etc.
Urinary System
Allows us elimate waste from the body
Reproductive System
The biological system made up of all the anatomical organs involved in sexual reproduction.
