Orbit Ocular Anatomy Flashcards
Where does the angular vein originate?
Side of the nose and medial angle of the orbit
What does the angular vein send into the orbit?
A nasofrontal branch which joins the supraorbital branch to form the SOV
What is the external jugular vein formed by?
Union of Retromandibullar vein and Posterior auricular vein
NOTE: drains blood from superficial face
Internal jugular vein is continuation of sigmoid sinus. What does it drain blood from?
Common facial
Occipital
Lingual
Superior and Medial thyroid veins
What does the cavernous sinus contain?
3,4,6,V1,V2, ICA, sympathetic fibers
Inflammation of SOF and/or cavernous sinus is what?
Toloso-Hunt syndrome
What are the tunics of the eye?
- Fibrous
- Uveal
- Neural
Where is the confluence of the sinuses located?
Internal occipital protuberance of the occipital bone
Where does the anterior facial vein get blood from?
Pterygoid venous plexus AND Superior/Inferior Palpebral veins
Where does the common facial vein drain?
Internal Jugular Vein
What is Falx Cerebri?
Strong folds of the dura mater that separate the R/L hemispheres of the brain
NOTE: where the superior sagittal sinus is located
What does the inferior branch of the inferior ophthalmic vein drain?
Pterygoid plexus
This is to communicate with the facial veins
What does the superior branch of the inferior ophthalmic vein drain into?
It drains into the CAVERNOUS SINUS with the Superior Ophthalmic Vein
What is the largest vein in the orbit?
Superior Ophthalmic Vein
NOTE: SOV is responsible for the majority of venous drainage in the eye
Where does the Superior ophthalmic vein receive blood from?
- CRV
- Superior vortex
- Muscular veins (SR/MR)
- Lacrimal vein
