Where does the oral cavity lie? And what does it consist of?
Inferiorly to the nasal cavity and consists of 2 lateral walls, a floor and a roof
What are the lateral walls formed by?
The buccinator muscles which play a role in keeping food between the teeth a when screwing
What are the hard and soft palates?
They form the roof of the oral cavity
What forms the floor of the oral cavity?
2 mylohyoid muscles, the tongue and other soft tissues
Where does the oral cavity begin and end?
Begins anteriorly at the oral tissue and extends posterioly to the oropharyngeal isthmus
What is the oropharyngeal isthmus?
An arch formed by the soft palate above and the upper surface of the tongue below - the side are formed by the anterior and posterior pillars of the faucets
