what do you look for when inspecting the rest of the oral cavity
hard and soft palate and tonsillar region
use tongue depressor and say aah, look for movement of soft palate
can do gag reflex if concerned
cleft high arched palate candida ulcers telangiectasia denture stomatitis deviated uvula tonsillitis white spots
how do you inspect the tongue
wasting, fasciculations, deviation, mobility
touch tongue to the roof of the mouth
observe tongue and floor of the mouth
look for red/ white patches
ulceration
swellings
ranulae
how do you palpate the tongue
stick out tongue
hold with gauze
palpate lateral borders for ulceration
if ulceration is present ask how long it has been there for
