enquire about pain

general inspection inspect from the front inspect from the back with patient standing both hips
what do you do in the feel stage
greater trochanter for tenderness
offer to feel the femoral head
what do you do in the move stage
asses flexion -active and passive
asses abduction- active and passive
assess internal and external rotation active and passive
asses internal and external rotation with 90 degrees of hip extension in prone position
what are the special tests
thomas’ test
measure limb length (ASIS to medial malleolus)
trendelenburg sign

fixed flexion deformity

from umbilicus to medial malleolus

contralateral hip ipsilateral knee lumbar spine patient's gait neuro exam of lower limb

ask patient to stand on the leg that you are examining and look for tilting pelvis
