Causes of optic neuritis?

A
  1. Infective
    - tuberculosis
    - syphilis
    - lyme
  2. Non infective:
    - demyelinating (MS), autoimmune related, drug induce

Symptoms of Optic neuritis?

A
  1. Gardual reduction of vision within hours or days
  2. Central scotoma
  3. Retrobulbar optic neuritis (cause pain on eye movement)

Management optic neuritis?

A

Infective: treat underlying disease

Non infective:

  • MRI
  • lumbar puncture

Tx: high dose steroid

Sign and symptom

A

Sx:

  1. Sudden loss of vision
  2. Painless
  3. No red eye

Sign:

  1. Poor vision
  2. Disfunction ON
  3. Altitudinal VF defect
