- Monocular loss of vision

Definition of CRAO?
A
Sudden persistent visual loss caused by embolus/emboli from heart or carotid artery

Sign of CRAO?
A
- RAPD positive
- Cherry red spot at fovea
- Retinal pallor
- Attenuation of artery
- Embolus in retinal vessel

Management CRAO?
A
- Hyperventilate the patient- CO2 95%
- Digital ocular massage
- IV acetazolamide (decrease IOP)
- Investigate the cause
- Treat underlying cause to prevent CRAO in other eye

A
- Age more than 70y/o
- Atherosclerosis
- High cholesterol level
- Hypertension
- Arteritis
- Young: CTD, Cardiac valcular disease
