surgery that confirms a suspected diagnosis
Examples?
diagnostic surgery
Ex: Biopsy, culture, endoscopy, fluid tap
surgery that confirms extent of dx process
Explorative Surgery
Ex: Laparotomy, joint exploration
repair physical deformities or improve surgery
Reconstructive
Ex: Rhinoplasty, mammoplasty, skin grafting
removes/repairs diseased/damged organs/ structures to cure patient
Curative surgery
Ex: Appendectomy, hysterectomy, Fraction fixture
replaces diseased/damaged organs w/ donated/artificial organs
Transplant surgery
Ex: Heart, kidney, bone, lung, skin transplants, etc
alleviates pain or slows progression of disease but does not cure
palliative surgery
PACU stands for

Extended Care
surgery that preserves fx of life of client
“might die or lose a limb:
emergent surgery
surgery that requires prompt attention w/n 24-48 hrs; ASAP- prompt attention
Urgent Sx
Indicated for health problem but immediacy not necessary to preserve function or life; 2nd opinion can be obtained
Required sx
