requires immediate attention , life threatening
what does urgent mean ?
requires attention within 24-30 hrs
what does required mean ?
requires surgery within a few weeks
what does elective surgery mean ?
time of the surgery is at the convenience of the patient , failure to have the surgery is not catastrophic
what is an optional surgery ?
scheduled completely at the preference of the patient

what is the difference between aseptic and sterile techniques ?
aseptic techniques - prevent contamination
sterile techniques - maintenance of sterility
what is the spaulding criteria used for ?
used to determine the potential for transmission of infectious agents

what is the difference in terms of protective reflexes between sedation and general anesthesia ?
sedation - protective reflexes remain intact
GA - protective reflexes are lost

what is the difference between spinal and epidural anesthesia ?
spinal - injected in the subarachnoid space
epidural - injected into the epidural space
