Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia
slow growing blood cancer causing tiredness, weakness and splenomegaly
Hodgekins Lymphoma ‘hallmark sign’
painful lump in neck when drinking alcohol, present in 10% affected individuals
Multiple Myeloma
Cancer of the bone marrow. Relapsing and remitting so no cure possible
Sx - bone pain, anaemia, repeated infections, unusual bleeding
Palliative hiccups
treated with chlorpromazine and sometimes haloperidol. Dexamethasone can also be used with hepatic lesions
Tumour lysis syndrome
oncological emergency characterised by serious electrolyte imbalance and metabolic abnormalities. Occurs after the initiation of cancer treatment where rapid cell death causes the release of cell contents into the bloodstream
