Multiple Myeloma

A

Cancer of the bone marrow. Relapsing and remitting so no cure possible

Sx - bone pain, anaemia, repeated infections, unusual bleeding

Palliative hiccups

A

treated with chlorpromazine and sometimes haloperidol. Dexamethasone can also be used with hepatic lesions

Tumour lysis syndrome

A

oncological emergency characterised by serious electrolyte imbalance and metabolic abnormalities. Occurs after the initiation of cancer treatment where rapid cell death causes the release of cell contents into the bloodstream
