On the board Flashcards
Nasal MRSA
a type of normal flora
Clostridium Dificile (C-Diff)
this bacteria releases exotoxins
Antigenic mutations
change to proteins so that the virus can no longer be detected
Sensitivity Report
tells you what drug the organism is resistant to and which drug it is susceptible to
VR
vaincomycin resistant enterococcus
ESBL
extended stream beta lactase
Pus
dead neutrophils and debris
Band Cells
when a patient has greater than 5 band cells in a complete blood count test (CBC) it means acute bacterial infection (shift to the left/bandemia)
Types of healing: Primary intention
- stitches
- edges pulled together and healing will occur in that space
- less risk of infection because smaller area
- approximation: well approximated means theyre together
Types of healing: secondary intention
- wound’s edges are open
- healing occurs when wound is open
- tissue heals inside out
Bone Marrow failure
causes pancytopenia
Normal HR/SV
HR: 69-100 BPM
SV: 70mL/beat
Syncope
when people pass out because HR cant compensate fast enough for low BP
MCM
- mean concentration of hemoglobin
- if normal -monochromic
- if not - hypo/hyperchromic
MCV
- mean corpuscular volume
- tells size of RBC
