OMA 8.2 Ground Handling Flashcards
Fueling: what can the commander delegate to an FO or engineer?
Safety procedures
Passing the fuel figure
Strobe lights OFF during fueling
Observing local APU procedures
Consulting fueler if starting APU during refuel
What is the fueler responsible for?
Fuel and water checks
Earthing
Caps secured
Uplift communicated
Does easyJet used wide cut fuels (Jet B)
No.
Requisites for refueling with pax?
Check CCI / AOI
Exit lights OK

Door 1L open with stairs/bridge
Door 2L either open with steps / closed with slide armed
Bowser clear of evacuation routes
Not permitted with reduced crew
All on board with both exit pairs manned
PA- no smoking, belts unfastened
Limit toilet use to avoid queues
Crew assume fueling when signs off
SCP- Special Category Passengers?
PRMs, infants, unaccompanied minors, deportees and prisoners
Must not be seated so may impede exits, crew duties, emergency equipment or evacuation
If a significant number of PRMs, commander will brief evacuation. Should not be more PRMs than ABPs.
3 other categories: Likely to assist, likely to impede, unlikely to affect.
Children restrictions?
Infants not under 2 weeks
No more than 2 infants per adult
(one on lap, one adjacent in restraint)
Recommended be cradled / forward facing for TO/LDG-Other pax not allowed to carry someone else’s child

Prisoner away from aisle / exit row, but near toilet
No alcohol.
Commander may refuse carriage.
Handcuffs removed when doors closed.
Call local police in case of diversion.
Deportees
Commander may refuse but must be fully justified. All documents / ticket retained in flight deck. Can leave if diverted to another country, but not the same as departure. Can be a normal passenger, sometimes are escorted.
Inadmissible passengers
Refused at port of entry, returned on next flight. To be identified to SCCM and commander informed. Police should meet at destination, but may release if they are late.
Report about disruptive passenger?
ASR with:
Names and addresses of witnesses with statements
If drink sold (ground/air)
Did event cause reputational damage to company (amongst other pax)
Whether police called or not.
Disembarking rules
Must be escorted from terminal to aircraft. Every care taken that pax leave as one group, no smoking, clear of engine intakes / exhausts.
Can we carry spares?
Yes, easyJet only, max 60kg.
Not to/from Switzerland.
No need for screening if came from the critical part.
Can be carried in engineer’s baggage.
Require COAS form (Carriage of Aircraft Spares - not Dangerous Goods)
If unaccompanied baggage, requires screening cert.
Only engineering can remove baggage on arrival.
Do human organs need screening?
No. Dry ice is permissible.
Only carried domestically in UK or in Italy (polizia deliver)
Not dangerous goods
Anthony Nolan bone marrow / stem cells procedure?
Must be with an Anthony Nolan rep (with letter)- not conside
Must be in locker or under seat, not in hold
How should ground vehicles be parked?
Parallel to plane so if they run away there is no collision with plane
Clear of left side of plane (egress)
Why would you refuse embarkation?
Statutory authority to refuse anyone who is hazard to aircraft or passengers
Drunk, drugged, mental or physical illness
What is active frost?
Aircraft skin at or below 0ºc or dewpoint.
What is clear ice / cold soak?
What is (hoar) frost?
Smooth with some air pockets
When snow melts and refreezes
If tanks are full of cooled fuel (even when OAT +15ºc)
Frost when temperature and dew point close, DP < 0ºc. Happens after cold and cloudless night (warm front).
What is freezing drizzle / freezing fog?
Freezing drizzle fine drops <0.5mm
Freezing fog when visibility < 1km
Frozen precipitation diameters
Snow grains <1mm
Snow pellets 1-5mm
Ice pellets < 5 mm
Freezing rain > 5mm
Hail 5-50mm
When should ground crew check for morning de-icing?
At least 3 hours before a morning departure
Also on extended turn arounds
What fluids used for a two-step procedure?
What are the different fluid types?
De-ice with Type I
Anti-ice with Type II/IV
Type I- orange / clear. Not viscous
Type II- straw. Thickening agent. Lower glycol
Type IV- green. Same viscosity as II, but advanced thickening agents
When is fluid refreezing a hazard?
When de/anti ice fluid is diluted with precipitation, runs down the fuselage and refreezes on probes.
Also, melted fluid can run up the windscreen during TO acceleration
What anti-icing details do I need to record?
Type
Fluid:water ratio
Local time- beginning of final step
