When is a safety pilot required?
What 3 things are their role?
For base training, and for LFUS until positive release.
- Monitor for errors and omissions
- Assist in workload management
- Assist or assume command in case of captain incap
May not be inexperienced, must be RHS qualified.
How many crew required for boarding?
One flight crew, One SCCM, and one cabin crew per 50.
Commander responsibilities delegated to FO until commander arrives.
Commander must ensure pre-flight briefing completed before departing
Minimum crew for taxiing
Type-qualified commander and second pilot qualified on type
What is the minimum cabin crew
- A319: 4
- 3 on an A139 150Y, with seat blocking tables on row 23. May not be below 3.
- A320: 4
- A321: 5
How many people in the cabin if no cabin crew?

* Company / contracted engineers
* Leasing company employees

If waiting for an FA, a non-rostered FA may be used. What are the conditions?
- Qualified on type
- Fit to fly
- In hi-viz if no uniform
- PA made announcing this if no uniform
- Must be briefed (not necessarily main briefing)
- Must remain until rostered FA
May help in preparation and pre-flight safety checks.
What is the definition of an inexperienced cabin crew member, and how many may there be on board?
- With no previous flying experience, until 40 sectors as operating crew
- With 1 year’s experience in the last 2 years, until 20 sectors
With four crew, two three star
With three crew, one three star
An additional three star may fly as supernumerary.
When are flights not permitted with reduced cabin crew?
From an operating base.
Must be approved by Network Duty Manager.
What is a transit base?
Company base which is not originating base, this includes a base originally planned as a night stop.
In case of an incapacitated SCCM, an interim SCCM may be nominated to continue. What are the conditions?
- Cannot do this from an easyJet base
- Interim must have been working for a year and 20 sectors on type
- If the duty passes through a base, should be replaced, unless none available.
Reduced crew boarding, what are the conditions?
Can we do refueling with pax?

- At least one flight crew
- One SCCM (may be non-rostered), briefing completed

What is the commander’s overall responsibility?
Commander has overall responsibility for safe and efficient conduct of the flight.

When can a captain with RHS training operate from the RHS?
As PM only, unless training captain, having completed initial line check from RHS.
