OIAN 14 Flashcards
Pronator teres
Origin: - Humeral head: upper portion of medial epicondyle via the CFT (common flexor tendon) - Ulnar head: coronoid process of ulna Insertion: - Pronator tuberosity of radius Action: - Pronates forearm - Weakly flexes the elbow Nerve: - Median - C 6,7
Flexor carpi radialis
Origin: - Medial epicondyle via the CFT Insertion: - Base of 2nd and sometimes 3rd metacarpals on the palmar side of the hand Action: - Flexes the wrist - Radially deviates the wrist - May assist to pronate the forearm Nerve: - Median - C 6,7
Palmaris longus
Origin: - Medial epicondyle via the CFT Insertion: - Superficial portion of the palmar aponeurosis Action: - Assists to flex the wrist Nerve: - Median - C 6,7
Flexor carpi ulnaris
Origin: - Humeral head: medial epicondyle via the CFT - Ulnar head: upper portion of the posterior ulna Insertion: - Pisiform & hamate bones - Base of the 5th metacarpal Action: - Flexes the wrist - Ulnarly deviates the wrist - Functionally stabilizes the wrist to permit powerful thumb motion Nerve: - Ulnar - C8,T1
Flexor digitorum superficialis
Origin:
- Humeral-ulnar head: medial epicondyle via the CFT
- Radial head: oblique line of radius
Insertion:
- Splits to both sides of the base of each middle phalanx of the 4 fingers
Action:
- Flexes the proximal and middle IP joints
- Flexes the wrist if fingers are extended
Nerve:
- Median
- C7,8, T1
Flexor digitorum profundus
Origin:
- Anterior & medial surface of proximal ¾ ulna
Insertion:
- Distal phalanx of medial 4 digits (through the FDS tunnel)
Action:
- Flexes the distal IP joints and in so doing flexes the proximal and middle IP joints
- Aids to flex the wrist (even more if fingers are extended)
Nerve:
- Medial portion: ulnar
- C8, T1
- Lateral portion:
median
- C8, T1
