Gluteal Muscles Flashcards
1
Q
Gluteus Maximus
A
Origin: - Outer rim of ilium (medial aspect) - Dorsal surface of sacrum and coccyx - Sacrotuberous ligament Insertion: - IT band - Gluteal tuberosity of femur Action: - Extends the hip - Laterally rotates the hip - Upper fibers aid to abduct the hip Nerve: - Inferior gluteal nerve - L5, S1-2
2
Q
Gluteus Medius
A
Origin: - Outer aspect of ilium (b/t iliac crest and anterior and posterior gluteal lines) Insertion: - Superior aspect of greater trochanter Action: - Abducts and medially rotates hip - Stabilizes pelvis and prevents free limb from sagging during gait Nerve: - Superior gluteal nerve - L4-5, S1
3
Q
Gluteus Minimus
A
Origin: - Outer aspect of ilium (b/t anterior and inferior gluteal lines) Insertion: - Greater trochanter Action: - Abducts and medially rotates hip Nerve: - Superior gluteal nerve - L4,5, S1
4
Q
Tensor Fascia Latae
A
Origin: - ASIS Insertion: - Onto IT band which then the IT tract attaches down at "Gerdy's tubercle" on the tibia Action: - Abducts with hip in flexed position - Slightly helps with hip rotation Nerve: - Superior gluteal nerve - L4,5, S1
