Gluteus Maximus

A
Origin:
- Outer rim of ilium (medial aspect)
- Dorsal surface of sacrum and coccyx
- Sacrotuberous ligament
Insertion:
- IT band
- Gluteal tuberosity of femur
Action:
- Extends the hip
- Laterally rotates the hip
- Upper fibers aid to abduct the hip
Nerve:
- Inferior gluteal nerve
- L5, S1-2

Gluteus Medius

A
Origin:
- Outer aspect of ilium (b/t iliac crest and anterior and posterior gluteal lines)
Insertion:
- Superior aspect of greater trochanter
Action:
- Abducts and medially rotates hip
- Stabilizes pelvis and prevents free limb from sagging during gait
Nerve:
- Superior gluteal nerve
- L4-5, S1

Gluteus Minimus

A
Origin:
- Outer aspect of ilium (b/t anterior and inferior gluteal lines)
Insertion:
- Greater trochanter
Action:
- Abducts and medially rotates hip
Nerve:
- Superior gluteal nerve
- L4,5, S1

Tensor Fascia Latae

A
Origin:
- ASIS
Insertion:
- Onto IT band which then the IT tract attaches down at "Gerdy's tubercle" on the tibia
Action:
- Abducts with hip in flexed position
- Slightly helps with hip rotation
Nerve:
- Superior gluteal nerve
- L4,5, S1
