  • Dissent is when a person who expresses disagreement with the course of action prescribed by the authority figure.
  • This means this causes moral strain.

How did Milgram use disobedience and dissent?

A
  • Two separate factors
  • Dissent is when a person expressed disagreement with the course of action prescribed by the authority figure
  • This does not necessarily mean the person will disobey.
  • First stepp is testing the true extent of the authorityfigures orders and persuade them to alter them.
  • It can become part of moral strain - allows a person to below off steam without disobeying the actual orders given.

What is disobedience?

  • when the individual refuses to carry out the order of the authority figure
  • It can occur for various reasons, from the social situation a person is in to the dispositional factors that influence persons behaviour, such a person’s personality and gender.
