The phase of therapeutic communication where it starts way before the nurse even meets the client. This phase is for the nurse to rule out any bias or preconceived ideas, stereotypes, and values that may cause conflict with the client.
Pre-interaction phase
The goal of the nurse client relationship is to assist the client to develop —- abilities and ——-.
Problem solving abilities and coping mechanisms
This phase is when acceptance, trust, and boundaries are established between the nurse and the client. You basically establish a contract, set goals for the client, and you and the client now know the time frame of your relationship.
Orientation phase or introductory phase
This phase is when the client basically starts to express thoughts and feelings and has an attitude of acceptance. You start exploring, focusing on, and evaluating client’s concerns so you can help them.
You encourage independence so the client will be ready to be on their own after you leave.
Working phase
This phase is when you prepare to end the session/relationship with the client.
You evaluate the client’s response to you leaving like anger, frustration…etc.
You evaluate the client’s progress and identify his/her strengths.
You encourage the client to express feelings about you leaving.
Lastly, you refer the client to community resources and other support systems.
Termination or separation phase
