What is operational switching?

- ensure safe operation of the system
What is safety switching?
Operation of equipment
- under the instructions of control person (safety)
- to achieve SFTS
Conditions not with scope of NSI 1
- switching for purpose of site routines on
- LV and Mechanical equipment
- is not subject to requirements of NSI 1
- shall be covered by site RAMS
What are the 5 operation diagrams?
1 - operational diagram
2 - technical data sheet
- gives ratings of equipment
3 - gas zone diagram
- details / positions of gas barriers
4 - Gas zone alarm sheet
5 - over sailing hazards
- added since incident to provide details to CP(s) on site.
What are the types of safety?
Process safety - protecting public safety and general environment from dangers arising from our process or activities.
General safety - covers everything else
Before issuing switching instruction CP SHALL
- consult CP of other systems that may be affected
- ensure HV EQUIPMENT not showing DBI Indication.
How should instructions be recorded?
Legibly and indelibly
Defeating the function of interlocks
When not WZE POI’s SAP authorised to OA1 and accompanied by AP authorised to OA2
SAP - shall ensure the substation running arrangement Is agreed with the control persons. This shall be established by a visual inspection of equipment.
- all staff, except accompanying AP, shall be clear of the area adjacent to the equipment prior to operation.
AP - as above
- SAP informed they are on the correct equipment prior to operation. - witnesses and checks specified switching operation as specified on instruction.
POI’s metal clad + withdrawable VT
- POI’s established VT SPOUT SHUTTERS locked caution notice attached.
- fully rated CB , designed to earth the circuit via the VT spouts can be locked in the feeder earth position. Caution notice attached to CB locking bar or equivalent.
