What is the first-line treatment of ADHD for adults?
Methylphenidate.
What drugs can be considered in patients unresponsive or intolerant to methylphenidate? How long should the initial trial with methylphenidate last?
Atomoxetine or dexamfetamine sulfate should be considered in patients unresponsive or intolerant to methylphenidate (an adequate trial should usually be about 6 weeks).
In second-line treatment of ADHD, why may atomoxetine be used in lieu of dexamfetamine?
If there may be a concern abou the potential for drug misuse and diversion.
