Notes:Topic 2 pt.4 Flashcards
What are Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI)
A type of MRI that detects directional movement of water molecules to show pathways and potential blockages where blood flows
What does blood flow have to do with the brain
When certain areas of our brain are very active, their going to be burning through resources and pull lots of blood towards it
What is Magnetic resonance Spectroscopy (MRS)
A type of MRI that detects concentration of brain metabolites, can detect abnormalities like concussions
What’s a Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (FMRI)
looks at changes in the oxygen content in our blood
What are Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy’s (FNIRS)
Uses light injectors that shine light through the surface of the skull to measure oxygen consumption in the brain
(light will bend differently due to how much oxygen there is in that area)
What are Position Emission Tomography (PET) scans?
Scans changes in blood flow by measuring oxygen and glucose in the blood stream
What gets injected in the flood for PET scans
Radioactive Molecules
What type of scan would you use if you wanted a time accurate (quickest measure) scan
EEG, FMRI if you need to go under the surface
