Q

What information about genes did Great Mendel figure out

Q

What happens when there is a Bad, Neutral, and Good mutation?

Q

What is a “Genotype”

A

A persons genetic makeup that tis present from birth and doesn’t change (Covert)
eg. Anijha has a versions of the dark brown hair gene

Q

What are Alleles? And what are the two types?

A

Different versions of a gene.

Dominant allele: is shown regardless of what other allele its paired up with
Recessive: Is only shown when paired up with the same recessive allele

Q

What are “Polygenetic” traits?

A

Traits that are influenced by more than one gene, multiple genes can cause this trait.
eg. skin colour, you wont have either your moms colour or dads colour, but maybe a combination of both

Q

what is a Modifier Gene?

Q

What is “Epigenetics”?

A

Changes in gene expression during aging (development) that are not caused by genes themselves.

As we get older, genes can get turned on or off

17
Q

What is “DNA Methylation”

A

Adding methyl to DNA, methyl is an “off” switch that blocks a certain protein

18
Q

What are Histones?

A

a protein that provides structural support for a chromosome (condenses DNA and gives its shape)

19
Q

What is “Histone Modification?”

A

chemical changes to histones that can act as an “on” or “off” switch
