nonspecific/innate immune responses Flashcards
nonspecific innate immune responses
cough and sneezing enzymes in tears and skin oils mucus (traps bacteria and particles) skin Stomach acid
second line of defense is
inflammation
inflammation
localized physical condition where the part of the body becomes hot, red, swollen, and painful
neutrophils
most abundant cell type in human blood
neutrophil is a
white blood cell that constantly patrols the body, recognizes intial invasion, and starts phagocytosis of foreign cells
neutrophils release
chemicals to trigger inflammation
local blood vessels in are of injury
dilate
brings more
blood and leukocytes to the area
chemotaxis
blood vessels in area become “leakier” so leukocytes can get to tissues easier
histamine
chemical that increase blood flow and heart rate during immune response
pyrogens
cause body temp to increase
allows for faster metabolism in the area
creates unfit environment for pathogens
too high - starts to damage body proteins
cytokines
proteins secreted by a cell to communicated with other cells during the immune response
