Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Flashcards
NH lymphomas have this marker that Hodgkin lymphoma does not have
CD20
What are the 3 important places that B-cells are at in the lymph node
what diseases are manifested here
follicle: follicular lymphoma
mantle: mantle cell lymphoma
margin: marginal zone lymphoma
Etiology of follicular lymphoma
t(14;18)
14: normally has Ig heavy chain
18: Bcl-2 (keeps cells from dying)
* this sucks, because you normally want most B-cells in nodes to die because somatic hypermutation produces a bunch of cells you definitely don’t want
Tx of follicular lymphoma
rituximab
CD20 Ab
Tingible body macrophages in follicular lymphoma
tingible body macrophages normally clean out apoptotic cells in follicle
not present in follicular lymphoma because the cells aren’t dying
Complication of follicular lymphoma
progression to diffuse large B-cell lymphoma
when one node starts getting really big
Presentation of follicular lymphoma
painless generalized lymphadenopathy
Mantle cell lymphoma etiology
t(11;14)
14: normally Ig heavy chain
11: cyclin D1 –> promotes G1–>S progression
Histology of mantle cell lymphoma
neoplastic cells directly around follicle
ie mantle area around follicle
Marginal zone lymphoma
etiology
B-cell proliferation in marginal zone
*marginal zone not always present in nodes
arises only in chronic inflammatory states
Conditions associated with marginal zone lymphoma
Hashimoto
H. pylori gastitis
Sjögren syndrome
Presentation of marginal zone lymphoma in woman w/ Sjögren syndrome
sudden unilateral enlargement of parotid
Burkitt lymphoma association
EBV
Forms of Burkitt lympoma
African: involves jaw
sporadic: involves abdomen
Etiology of Burkitt
t(8;14)
14: Ig heavy chain
8: c-myc
c-myc promotes cell growth
