Chronic Leukemias Flashcards
CLL
cell type and markers
B-cells
CD5 and CD20
CLL classic pathology findings
smudge cells on smear
CD5+ and CD20+
CD5+ is kind of weird because that’s less than 10, which would normally be a T-cell marker, but this one is a B-cell marker
Complications of CLL
hypogammaglobulinemia: infection
autoimmune hemolytic anemia: type II hypersensitivity
transformation to acute: Richter transformation
Hairy cell leukemia
everything to know is in stain name
TRAP stain: tartrate resistant acid phosphatase
*stains hairy cytoplasmic processes
traps everything in BM –> dry tap
trapped in RED pulp of spleen –> no lymphadenopathy
Tx of hairy cell
2-CDA/cladribine
adenosine deaminase inhibitor, adenosine accumulates to toxic levels in neoplastic B-cells
Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma association
HTLV-1
human T-cell leukemia virus-1
in Caribbean and Japan
Presentation of adult T-cell leukemia
punched-out lytic bone lesions
+
rash
*lytic like MM, but with rash!
Adult T-cell leukemia
cell type
CD4+
Mycosis fungoides
cell type
CD4+
Mycosis fungoides
produces aggregates in epidermis called
Pautrier microabscesses
Smear of mycosis fungoides
cerebriform nuclei = Sezary cells
