Lymphadenopathy Flashcards
Painful lymphadenopathy most common in
acute infections
Painless lymphadenopathy more common in
chronic inflammatory states
metastatic carcinoma
lymphoma
HIV infection leads to proliferation of what area of the lymph node
follicular hyperplasia
because dendritic cells are also CD4+
and that’s where they live
they present to B-cells, B-cells in follicles
Rheumatoid arthritis lead to proliferation of what area of the lymph node
follicular hyperplasia
Paracortical hyperplasia most commonly seen in
viral infections
ie EBV
Hyperplasia of medulla/sinus histiocytes seen in
lymph nodes draining tissue w/ cancer
does not necessarily mean cancer is metastasized to node
Regions of the lymph node
follicle: B-cells
mantle: area adjacent to follicle
margin: space around mantle (at margin)
* margin often not present in normal nodes
